Dear Family,
I'm so excited to hear we have 2 beautiful new additions to the family this past week! What a blessing! Congrats Laura and Wilfried and Aaron and Rachel! I really hope someone will send me pictures of those new babies :)
We have had such a blessed week down here in South Carolina. This is potentially my last week here in Summerville with transfers next week and I absolutely love this place. We had Zone Conference this last week and it was so inspiring. I always leave wanting to just stop literally every person I see. (I start to question whether it’s me or the spirit telling me to talk to someone because I have yet to pass by a house or person as we’re driving that I don't have a desire to stop and talk to; but we only have so many hours in the day!) It's amazing to me how simple missionary work really is. It's simply inviting others to come to Christ and partake of the goodness of God!
I was reading Jacob 1 this morning and that is basically what he said. Then at the end he said that we are accountable to share this with everyone! I've realized that if we are 100% trusting in God we really should never feel nervous about sharing the gospel, but sometimes we still are. I've realized it usually is because of one of 2 things: 1. Sometimes I feel like I have to persuade or convince them, but if we can remember this is God's work and His spirit does the teaching, it doesn't matter if I am not smart enough to talk someone into it because I'm not supposed to be! And 2. We sometimes forget that not only is it not us doing the teaching and it's not our work, but we're not persuading at all. We're inviting. So it should be quite simple! Just extend the invitation to come to Christ! One of my favorite things to ask investigators, less actives, or members, is: What would Christ be doing if he were here in this room right now? Well we are standing in His place right now and we're telling you what he would be saying to you. He would be inviting you to come follow Him!
One quick miracle I wanted to share: We had a really awesome week and taught tons of lessons and everything, butSunday we were pretty bummed out as all 6 people that seemed very solidly coming to church bailed out on us. We had kind of a difficult afternoon too and we were heading to a less-actives house for dinner. We were about 5 min early and kind of wanted to just go in because it would just be easier, but decided to use that 5 min to go meet at least one new person. We picked one house to visit and the girl who answered the door was absolutely golden! She just let us right in and was so hungry for truth it was great! Heavenly Father definitely gives you those opportunities to bless people if you're willing to put His will above your own!
I’d like to ask you to pray for the Jury family. Robbie is our 17 yr. old investigator who is SO awesome! He wants to be baptized and go on a mission and is just all around so solid, but he’s had some family opposition. We got his mom to recognize we're not crazy and that this will be such a blessing to her son, but her boyfriend that lives there is pretty opposed to the church so we are really working to try to soften his heart so Robbie can be baptized.
Anyway I love y'all so much! Keep being the wonderful examples you are!
love, Sister Lewis
